Loretta Yu was born in Montreal, Quebec. At a young age, her family moved to the East Coast to open a restaurant. Growing up watching her parents work night and day to provide for their family, Ga Ting is a story very close to her heart.

Loretta graduated with a BA in Theatre Studies from Acadia University. She made her professional theatre debut in The Company Theatre’s critically-acclaimed production of John by Annie Baker. John received several Toronto Theatre Critics Awards including Best Production and was listed in the Top 10 Theatre Productions of 2017 in The Globe and Mail, Toronto Star, and NOW Magazine.

Loretta has worked extensively in film and television, appearing in feature films such as Pretend We’re Kissing, Nonsense Revolution, and Denis Villeneuve’s Enemy. Select television credits include Between, Degrassi: The Next Generation, The Listener and Hemlock Grove. Her latest credits include recurring roles in Dino Dana and CBC’s award-winning digital series Save Me. Most notably, Loretta plays series regular Teresa Fai on OMNI Television’s Blood and Water, Canada’s first trilingual television series.  Blood and Water was nominated for multiple Canadian Screen Awards including Best Dramatic Production.

Loretta is thrilled to kick off 2019 with ARTillery Collective’s Ga Ting for the Next Stage Theatre Festival. Following that, she will return to the stage in Project Humanity and Crow’s Theatre’s co-production of Towards Youth: A Play on Radical Hope. On television, keep an eye out for Loretta this spring in CBC’s new series Diggstown.
